All 80 people on board have been killed after a Moroccan military plane crashed into a mountain in the south of the country.

The C-130 Hercules aircraft was trying to land amid bad weather in Guelmim, about 730 kilometers south of the capital Rabat when the accident happened. Local media report it was travelling from the western Saharan city of Dakhla bound for Kenitra, 40 kilometers north of the capital.

Local residents say there was thick fog in the area at the time of the crash. This was the most serious crash for the country in recent years. The most recent plane crash happened in August 1994, in which 44 passengers and crew members were killed.
