China is the second nation to have 3 aerobatic squads after Russia. The 16 members of the Heavenly Wings are all veteran pilots from the PLA Air Force. They will fly China's home-developed CJ-6 aircraft.

To this day, the plane is still China's top export among all military planes. The Red Eagles is composed of 18 pilots, 8 of whom participated in the military parade marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in 2009.

They will fly K-8, China's new generation of trainer jets.

The primary purpose of these two new teams is to facilitate exchanges between foreign air forces and China.
