The Netherlands is the guest of honor at the 2011 Beijing International Book Fair, which opens on Wednesday morning.

More than 20 Dutch writers and 16 publishers have brought the full range of Dutch literature to the fair. Most are attending for the first time, but all are eager to expand a literary tie that dates back into history.

A graphical journey through Dutch literature.

Visitors are invited to roam the landscape of the Netherlands, through the vivid illustrations, and from titles both old and new.

Dutch Princess Laurentien, who is also the author of children's book "Mr Finney and the World Turned Upside Down," believes that the book fair will spark a dialogue between the two cultures.

Princess Laurentien of Netherlands said, "I believe the power of dialogue, we can learn from each other."

The book fair has paid tribute to Dutch sinologist, diplomat and writer, Robert Hans van Gulik. During his brief lifetime, Gulik published scientific studies on various aspects of Chinese culture -- from gibbons to erotic art. In doing so, he gained wider fame with suspense stories, inspired by Chinese judge Dee Renjie.

For Thomas van Gulik, the youngest son in the family, having the judge Dee novels translated back into Chinese, marks the fulfillment of a mission started 60 years ago.

More publishers are looking to tap into the huge potential of the Chinese market.

Amsterdam-based Cossee publishing house focused on literary fictions and full-length fictions. The independent publisher has just sold the copyright of "The Twin" to a Shanghai publisher. And the Chinese version is about to come out next year.

The Beijing International Book Fair runs until Sunday.
