Tidal bore is a spectacular scene that nature has gifted us. Each year, during early fall, a large number of spectators gather in Hai-ning, a city in east China's Zhejiang Province to watch the magnificent tides and waves at the Qiantang Riverbank. And this year the tides have been strengthened by Tropical Storm Nanmadol and have reached their highest measurements on record, which has also increased their danger level.
Powerful waves, massive tides and strong undertows create a marvelous scene in Lao-yan-cang, one of the best tide-watching spots in Hai-ning city. Qiantang River is one of the few places in the world where the tidal phenomenon occurs. Each year, thousands of people flock to watch the magnificent tide, which has become a tradition that attracts visitors from all parts of China. Enthusiastic visitors seem not to care much about the dangerous level of the extremely strong tide this year.
Ms Chen, Visitor, said, "It feels like thousands of horses running toward us. That's spectacular! This is just out of my imagination. I couldn't find a word to describe."
Ms. Ren, Visitor, said, "I can't believe what I've seen. It's marvelous. You won't find the beauty of this scene until you come here yourself."
Tidal waves are seen each year at the river during the eighth month of the lunar calendar, which is often around the Mid-Autumn Festival. Experts have predicted the largest tidal waves will come next week. Due to the influence of a nearby storm, the strong turnout for tide-watching this year has been above expectations. The local government has set up an expert panel to conduct observation and measurements in the tide-watching area. The protection railings have been fixed and the river banks have been strengthened to ensure the safety of visitors.
Shi Zhendong, Vice Mayor of Haining City, Zhejiang Province, said, "We have made a detailed plan to ensure the safety of visitors. Though some areas will be closed due to safety reasons, we will open some other areas for tide-watching. So our visitors will enjoy a safe and impressive viewing experience."
A plan has been made by the local government in Haining city to tackle emergency cases during this tide-watching season. Some dangerous sections in the viewing area will be closed for three days from September 14th to the 16th. Local policemen will also step up patrol efforts to ensure the safety of visitors.
