The world-renowned natural wonder is caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, and today's mid-autumn festival is the best time to watch it. Tens of thousands of spectators gather each year in Haining to get a glimpse, but not without risk. Last month, at least 20 spectators were injured while watching the Qian-tang River tide during the typhoon season. Local authorities have now closed some of the best but dangerous viewing spots out of safety concerns.

More adventurous people will be taking part in a surfing competition later this afternoon. And as China watches tonight's autumn full moon, people will also gather to hear the sound of the waves.
