In Haining, Zhejiang province the magnificent Qiantang tidal bores that have lasted more than two weeks will soon reach their climax on the 18th day of the eight lunar month of this year. Although the Mid-Autumn festival holidays have passed, some tourists are still staying for the peak of the giant surge.

In Xiao Shan, one of the best points for tides watching, viewers are waiting behind a fence for the roaring waves to appear. The tides will hit the bank there and make a U-turn before heading downstream. Yet how powerful is the U-turn of the surge? Some are about to get themselves wet and dirty to test it.

Actually, they are six plastic models placed along the bank to record the force of the tide. One of them is holding a camera, recording the first sight of the tide. The models weigh about the same as adults of a similar height. Yet when hit by the tides, they are pushed to the ground like toys. However, the strongest tides are yet to come. Tomorrow will be the 18th day of the eight lunar month this year when the tides usually reach the peak magnitude on the day. Tide watchers, be prepared!
