With more than a decade of development in China, new energy vehicles are no longer a novel idea. Electric or hybrid automobiles are less reliant on gas and diesel, and are helping conserve energy and protect the environment.

China has expanded the trial operation of new energy vehicles across 25 cities since 2009. Data from the trial cities indicate that the vehicles have been driven a total of 330 million kilometers, and their development has advanced accordingly.

It's hoped that this technology will become more widely used among individual drivers, although at present, it's mainly used for public transportation.
