China faced the United Arab Emirates at the FIBA Asian Championships in Wuhan on Saturday. The squad's already advanced to the next round, and that gave coach Bob Donewald the chance to give some less-experienced members of the team some playing time.
China was looking to go three-for-three in the tournament so far. The side started with a 12-0 run over the U-A-E. NBA veteran Yi Jianlian provided seven of the 12 points, and went to the bench to see if the younger players could keep the advantage. He would not be disappointed. China's Yu Shulong and Zhang Zhaoxu found the rhythm right away, and the team ended the first quarter with a 22-8 lead.
Second quarter, same story. China used some timely three-point shooting to maintain a double-digit lead. But the U-A-E managed to break through and shorten the gap to 8 before the end of the first half. That meant another appearance from Yi Jianlian. He returned to the court in the third quarter, and China increased its advantage to more than twenty points. Sun Yue provided the finishing touch as China beat the UAE 75-60.
