Boeing 787 Dreamliner arrives in Tokyo

The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft ordered by Japan's All Nippon Airways Co. arrived at Tokyo's Haneda airport Wednesday morning from the United States.

The next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft will make the world's first commercial flight between the Narita airport outside Tokyo and Hong Kong as a chartered plane on Oct. 26.
The delivery of the 787 comes after a series of technical mishaps and delays that have cost the U.S.-based Boeing billions of dollars in lost or canceled orders.
The ANA had originally been told to expect the first of its 55 ordered planes in early 2008.
The ANA, Japan's largest domestic service airline, said it will invite children from areas devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster to fly on the plane, which will make a sightseeing flight to and from the Sendai airport on Oct. 30, according to the local media.
The airline will put the 787 into regular scheduled service on domestic routes linking Haneda with Okayama and Hiroshima on Nov. 1 and on an international route between Narita and Beijing in December.
The twin-engine, wide-bodied aircraft, with half of its body made up of carbon composite materials, is about 20 percent more fuel efficient than conventional models. The airliner has a capacity of about 300 passengers.
