The film "W.E." is directed and co-written by Madonna and has already played at three film festivals, but the recording artist and filmmaker says she's still nervous about opening it to the public.

The movie is about the love story between King Edward the 8th who renounced the throne to marry a twice-divorced American woman Wallis Simpson. The film also follows a parallel story of a lonely woman named Wally in New York, played by Abbie Cornish, who is researching Wallis and Edward's relationship in the present day.

Actress Andrea Riseborough, who plays Simpson, says she didn't allow herself to become intimidated by Madonna because there simply wasn't enough time to do so.

Andrea Riseborough, actress, said, "If I'd responded to the script the way I did but decided not to go and meet her out of fear it would've been fruitless so no there was just no time. What I did have was admiration."

Madonna says she is aware the movie is being released at a time when interest in the royal family has increased thanks to the marriage of William and Kate.

Madonna said, "I do think that the world loves the story of a Prince and a Princess or a Queen or a King because I think as we grow up on fairy tales we like the idea that two people meet, fall in love and live happily ever after in a castle. But of course I don't think that generally ever happens and I think that was one of the things that interested me about the film trying to understand the nature of their relationship and understand why a man, a King would give up his position for the woman he loved. What did that woman have, what did she embody, what was so special about her and did they live happily ever after?"

Madonna recorded a song called "Masterpiece" which plays over the credits of "W.E." She says it will be featured on her next album. "W.E." opens on Friday in New York, Los Angeles and Dubai.
