US Special Representative on DPRK policy Glyn Davies says he gained a closer appreciation of the challenges ahead during his 7-day Asia tour. He also expressed gratitude for China’s efforts restoring peace on the Korean Peninsula. Davies made the remarks in brief press conference in Beijing on Thursday afternoon before embarking on a journey back to Washington.

Glyn Davies delivered a note of gratitude at the end of his Beijing trip, "US appreciates China’s role in reducing tension of the Korean Pennisula, and essential role in six-party talks.”

He expressed the belief that his first Asia tour has given him a good understanding of the challenges to getting back to the negotiating table and for coming out of it with the right outcome.

Formerly an ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Glyn Davies is new in his capacity at DPRK representative. He is intent on making sure that he’s representing a consistent policy.

"We want the need them to change behavior, live up to obligations, ceace provocative actions, abide by their commitments," said Davies.

The DPRK however, wants no preconditions to return to the table.

In a regular press briefing on Thursday afternoon, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin maintained that the resumption of the six-party talks serves the fundamental interests of all parties, and more dialogue will help to create a favorable atmosphere.

Liu said, "Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, and Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawei have each exchanged opinions with Glyn Davies. China maintains that the Korean Peninsula should be nuclear free; only through dialogue can peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula be safeguarded. China hopes to work with the related parties to create favorable conditions for the resumption of the six-party talks."
