The Qatari government's endeavor to diversify its economic structure has transformed Qatar into a country with the lowest reliance on oil revenues among all the Gulf states. And both governments believe China's mature manufacturing sector and vast market make it feasible to plan for even closer bilateral economic cooperation.
The two governments have singled out energy, chemical engineering, farm produce, household appliances as well as textile, as a priority to expand cooperation. The total volume of trade between the two nations reached nearly 2.7 billion US dollars in the first seven months of 2011, which is a robust 67.0 percent increase over the same period last year. Qatar enjoys a surplus of 1.4 billion US dollars in its trade with China.
