Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper arrives in Beijing for a five day visit to China, seeking to strengthen economic ties with Canada's second-largest trading partner.

Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper (L) and his wife Laureen disembark from their aircraft after arriving at Beijing international airport.

It's Mr. Harper's second visit to China in three years and marks a significant warming of relations. His visit will focus on bilateral economic ties and energy cooperation.

Mr. Harper brings four cabinet ministers and 40 business executives and academics on this visit.

During his trip, Harper will meet Chinese leaders and discuss expansion of bilateral cooperation in various sectors. Bilateral trade surged 60 percent in the last two years and hit a record high of almost 50 billion US dollars in 2011.
