An explosion at a chemical plant in North China's Hebei Province has killed at least 13 people.

The accident happened at around 9:30 a.m Tuesday. at Hebei Ka-er Chemical Plant in Zhaoxian County. More than forty were hospitalized with injuries, and local authorities have sent a rescue team to the site. The blast flattened one of the factory's workshops and broke windows within a 2,000 meter radius.

And tremors were felt in at least three surrounding villages. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
