China's chief nuclear envoy Wu Dawei for the Korean Peninsula has met with his Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama in Beijing. They exchanged views on the situation of the Korean Peninsula. Both sides agreed that all parties should make efforts for an early reopening of the six-party talks. Sugiyama is visiting China with the prevention of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's planned satellite launch on the top of his agenda. Japan had earlier threatened to intercept the rocket. China is calling for restraint.

Wu Dawei, China's Special Rep. for Korean Peninsula said, "We urge all parties to remain calm and restrained and put the interests of peace, stability and development as the top priority, in order not to further complicate the situation. Both China and Japan welcome the recent consensus reached between the DPRK and the US, which is of great significance to maintaining regional peace and stability as well as the resumption of the six-party talks.
