China's Wang Zhen, Liu Hong set Asian records

Depsite heavy rains in Jiangsu province in China today, the top Chinese entrants in the IAAF Taicang Race Walking Challenge were able to endure the elements on their way to setting a pair of new Asian Records in the 20 kilometre distance.

20-year-old Wang sets a new Asian record by bettering the old record by 5 seconds to set a new mark in a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 36 seconds to claim his second straight win at the event. 

In the men's 20 kilometer race-walk, a pair of young Chinese racers Wang Zhen and Chen Ding both exceeded the previous Asian record. 20-year-old Wang would be the faster of the two, setting a new Asian record by bettering the old record by 5 seconds to set a new mark in a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 36 seconds to claim his second straight win at the event.

Wang was also lowering his personal best by 54 seconds. 19-year-old Chen was second, four seconds behind his compatriot. The day showcased the two Chinese as clear medal contenders for the London Olympics.

24-year-old Liu Hong of China would cross the line in first recording a new Asian best time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 46 seconds.

In the women's race, the long standing record time of 1 hour, 26 minutes and 22 seconds, set in November of 2001, would be bettered. 24-year-old Liu Hong of China would cross the line in first recording a new Asian best time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 46 seconds. Liu, won her second straight Taicang Race Walk Challenge.
