Twelve coal miners have been trapped in an underground flood in the city of Jiaohe - that's according to the authorities in northeast China’s Jilin Province.
The flooding is said to have been caused by a water leakage due to mining activities conducted by a previous operator in the vicinity. The local authorities say that so far the water level in mine shaft is stable and rescue efforts are underway.
There were a total of 70 miners working at the township-owned coal mine at the time of the flooding on Friday morning.
