Manila has declared it will name the disputed area the Panatag Shoal. Philippine Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda explained they will use the name just "for brevity". He'd been asked if the naming was meant to assert a territorial claim.

China has consistently maintained it has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Island. It's asked the Philippines to take concrete measures to stop provoking incidents in the area.
