It's been a day of bloody violence in Iraq. Several bomb attacks have left at least 45 people dead, with most of the victims Shi'ite muslims. The latest bomb blast was in the capital Baghdad, when a car bomb killed at least one person and wounded 5 more.

Earlier in the day, a truck bomb exploded at a market in the city of Di-wan-iya, killing 40 people. Another blast killed four more, near the city of Kerbala. The Diwaniya bombing was near to a Shi'ite mosque, where pilgrims had gathered before heading to Kerbala for a celebration. Diwaniya's police force have announced a partial curfew, and blocked all entrances to the city. Iraqi police say 75 people were wounded in the attack.

At least 44 people are killed in a series of attacks on markets in central Iraq, ahead of key Shiite ritual. Deborah Lutterbeck reprots.
