Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, has died at the age of 82.

Neil Armstrong, said, " that’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind" first, about 9 seconds "one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind."

The former US astronaut underwent heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve coronary arteries.

As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.

More than 500 million TV viewers around the world watched the spacecraft’s touchdown on the lunar surface. Armstrong and a fellow astronaut spent nearly three hours walking on the moon, collecting samples, conducting experiments and taking photographs.

Last year, Armstrong received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian award.
