The Beijing Film Studio bears the dreams and memories of many movie fans and actors, now as its last departments pack up for the outskirts of the city, what does the move signify for the film industry?

For many aspiring actors, the Beijing Film Studio, which had made its landmark just outside the city's North Third Ring Road, holds much of their hopes and dreams. They are reluctant to say goodbye, but this is the studio's path to development.

Jia Leilei, Industry Insider said, "The relocation of the Beijing Film Studio marks the end of old ways of film making. In the past, having a base is necessary for creating the many film scene setings. But in the digital era, we can generate any scenery from any period. The cost is much lower."

The studio has stopped making films since 2007. It barely survives by depending on film copies, records, and other post productions. The modern film requires higher standards of production and distribution. The studio too has to follow the trend. But industry experts also point out the need to preserve records.

Jia Leilei said, "Before the relocation, many historic records and cultural relics need to be carefully stored, because they are history."

Many other established film studios in China are also undergoing restructuring and reform. And their survival hangs on the balance of balancing profits and ensuring quality.
