The FIFA Confederations Cup in June 2013 is considered a dress rehearsal for the 2014 World Cup with games to be played at six of the 12 stadiums being upgraded or built from scratch in Brazil's largest cities. FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke voiced doubts Tuesday that Brazil would have the stadiums ready because of the slow pace of construction.

The Belo Horizonte stadium has about 80 percent of its upgrade completed and is the closest to being ready, along with Fortaleza's Castelao stadium. Recife's Arena Pernambuco is the main concern for the Confederations Cup organisers.

Only 64 percent of the construction has been completed. FIFA has given the six cities until mid-November to prove they are on track. If they are not, they could be dropped as hosts of the tournament.

Jerome Valcke said, "Definitely there are some stadiums which are not ready. Definitely there is some concern about a few stadiums. So we will have to make sure that the work will have to speed up. I'm talking mainly about the Confederations Cup. For the World Cup, it's Ok for the time being. Still, there are stadiums which will be delivered in December and we are talking about February or March. That's something we can deal with. When we are talking about stadiums where the date is April or May, that is something which is not acceptable because We don't want. We cannot organise test events on time."
