One week after launching his solo around the world sailing journey from the Eastern port city of Qingdao, China's Guo Chuan has hit the Pacific Ocean.

However, the journey to reach the Pacific took an unexpected twist as he made his way through the East China Sea on Tuesday.

Guo, forced to guide his boat through the maze of fishing trawlers found off the Chinese coast. However, one of the nets from the boats caught the keel of his vessel. It took the sailor nearly 2 hours to cut loose.

After that though, it was clear sailing for Guo as he passed the southern tip of Japan. Riding the north-east trade-winds, Guo sailed at nearly 20 knots, or nearly 90 percent of his boat's optimal speed, and has hit the Pacific as he heads towards Cape Horn off the coast of South America.

It's estimated that the global solo sail will take Guo an estimated 130 days and will cover 21,600 nautical miles.
