The National Meteorological Center says a cold front sweeping across China’s northern region, will bring snow storms and a sharp drop in temperature over the next two days.

Snow is expected to fall in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Tacheng and Yili areas will see snow storms, which will drag temperatures down by as much as 10 degrees Celsius. Heavy snow has already hit the northwestern Yining city since Thursday, forcing the airport to close and stranding nearly one thousand passengers. Meanwhile, North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been hit by freezing temperatures which reached as low as minus 39 degrees Celsius since Friday. Local governments reminded residents to make full preparation for the extreme weather.
