The A-list cast of the new Les Miserables film has hit the red carpet in London for its World Premiere. The musical film is directed by academy award winner Tom Hooper and the whole film was recorded live. Vastly different from what they're used to, the cast revealed what singing live on set was like.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France the epic story follows the plight of Sean Valjean, an ex-convict on the run after breaking his parole. The film's stars include Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman.
Jackman who plays Valjean, has an impressive number of musical theatre hits under his belt as well as a successful film career.
Hugh Jackman, actor of "Les Miserables", said,"I suppose in a way Jean Valjean is very much the - has to be in some way the leader, in a way and but I felt it was very ensemble I felt we were all in it together on a film set Tom Hooper was our leader and we just all went for it and we all felt together, it was the most ensemble feel I've ever had on a film."
The film is based on the long-running stage musical and classic novel by Victor Hugo. Since the musical was first shown on the West End in 1985, it has been seen by more than 60 million people and has gone on to become one of the world's longest-running musicals.
Director Tom Hooper won an Oscar last year when his film "The Kings Speech" dominated the awards season. He hopes fans will be pleased.
Tom Hooper, director of "Les Miserables", said,"Well you can tell from the huge turn out here the status of Les Mis, it has 60 million fans around the world I wanted to do it justice I hope people will feel that I did."
Anne Hathaway plays tragic heroine Fantine, an out of work mother who turns to prostitution. She underwent physical transformations for the film - losing weight and hair for the role.
Anne Hathaway, actress of "Les Miserables", said,"I think I am still getting used to it, but it was surreal it happened more quickly than I thought it was going to, I kept thinking it has taken 30 years to grow this or something like that and now it is all gone, it was scary leading up to it and then as soon it was done it was fine."
Hathaway performs one of the drama's many big showstoppers -"I Dreamed A Dream", and like the rest of the cast she sang live on set.
Les Miserables is due to hit theatres in the US on December 25th and in the UK on January 11th, 2013.
