A pair of giant pandas have been cleared for their journey to two Canadian Zoos. Damao and Ershun will leave from Chengdu in south-west China's Sichuan province on Monday for Canada.

They will stay at the Toronto Zoo and the Calgary Zoo each for five years. Body tests conducted on them showed that they were healthy and suitable for the long flight. The lease agreement was signed by the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and the two Canadian zoos last year when Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited Chongqing municipality. Harper said that "they will be the first pair of pandas to visit Canada since the 1980s."
