MSF reaches out to China

Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF International) Secretary General Jérôme Oberreit gave a public lecture to a small crowd of students, staff and faculty at Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management in Beijing on March 21, 2013. This was the first time for MSF International to give a presentation at a Beijing-based non-medical school.
During an interview with China.org.cn last week, Oberreit talked about the role of humanitarian aid in armed conflict zones and the need to preserve the dignity and lives of people living in distress.

MSF International, also referred to as "Doctors without Borders," is an international medical humanitarian organization specialized in providing emergency medical aid to those affected by armed conflict regardless of race, religion or political affiliation, according to the group's mission statement.
MSF Activity Report 2011, the most recent international activity report available, highlights ongoing MSF humanitarian projects across the developing world. MSF International is active in more than 65 countries, and conducted 8,358,763 outpatient consultations and 445,544 inpatient consultations worldwide in 2011, according to MSF data.
In order to maintain administrative and operation independence from governments and state actors, MSF International depends primarily on donations to fund its day-to-day relief efforts, with 89 percent of the organization's budget in 2011 stemming from public donations, according to MSF financial records that are independently audited accounting firms KPMG and Ernst & Young.
MSF International employs tens of thousands of health professionals, logistical and administrative staff through its worldwide movement of 23 associated organizations.
