Some Chinese consumers are taking issue with Apple's almost universal one-year warranty for the motherboard of its Macbook Air laptops.
China's quality watchdog now says that Apple's policy violates Chinese law, which requires a warranty of no less than two years for motherboards. It says Apple must correct the policy or be severely dealt with. Moreover Apple's reputation of having excellent customer service is increasingly facing challenges.
Since CCTV's Chinese channel aired a report about Apple using a double standard in China when it comes to repairs, there's been massive media coverage on this across the country. The People's Daily said in an editorial that "Honesty is the basic business virtue and the foundation of market economy."
