Violence and rising crime may be bad for Egypt, but it's been good for one sector of the economy. The security doors business is booming amid the mounting chaos.

Hassan owns a security door shop in Cairo. He started the business years ago, and his main clients used to be hospitals and embassies who need special security doors.

But sales were relatively low because of the limited market demand. Now Hassan's business has grown as the security situation worsens in Cairo.

He said, "Business is very good. Sales volume increased sharply in 1998. The customers have to protect their farms, businesses and families. The worse the security becomes, the more doors we sell".

At a recent trade fair in Cairo, Hassan sold 300. Even in his 30-square-meter store, he sells an average of 70 doors a month.

Anti-government protests and violence have been common since the unrest in 2011. And cases of burglaries and thefts have also risen.

He said, "I'm scared by the situation. I always go straight home after work. I think it's safer to do that. I live in the Pyramid district. More police have been deployed on the streets, but my parents call me much often than before to check if I'm safe".

An average security door costs about 6,500 Egyptian pounds, or a thousand U.S. dollars. But the price can go up to 10,000 pounds... almost two month' income of an ordinary family. Many people still think that's worth paying, and Hassan is confident about the future.

He says he plans to expand to other places in the country, where people are also worried about the safety of their property and lives.
