Bill Gates: China's innovation benefits whole world

In an exclusive interview with CCTV at the Boao Forum for Asia, Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, recognized China's innovation progress. He said China's innovative work in fields such as epidemic control and poverty elimination can benefit the whole world.

Gates said China's scientific breakthroughs can help Africa and less developed countries battle epidemics, hunger and poverty.

He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the Boao Forum and his trip to Africa served to reinforce this message.

Bill Gates, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, said, "Well the president is very consistent in talking about China helping the world, he's certainly off to a good start."

As the co-chair and trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates said the best kind of charity work is providing people in need with the tools to be self sufficient rather simply giving them money.

Bill Gates said, "The very best charity farthest rural areas of the world."

Gates said his foundation, which has been active in battling HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis and reducing tobacco use, is working closely with the Chinese government and institutes on epidemic control and agricultural research.

He also noted that China's innovation capability is growing every year, with a lot of universities putting emphasis on it. Gates added that this will not only benefit China, but the whole world.
