This baby girl was born in a tent in the city of Ya'an at around 9 am, one hour after the deadly earthquake. Hospital staff had just finished evacuating the baby’s mother to an empty patch of ground, when she pointed to her belly and shouted to the nurses that she was about to give birth.
News of the girl’s birth was a bright spot on the tragic day. The mother is considering naming her newborn daughter Zhensheng, meaning "born in the earthquake".
