The earthquake in Lushan County has destroyed over 3,000 homes. For those residents of the county now homeless, a new makeshift arrangement is providing shelter and safety.

Chen Wenfen has a big family. 20 members in total, whose ages range from 3 to 87 years. None of them could have imagined such a big earthquake would devastate their hometown.

Chen Wenfen's brother, Lushan County, said, "When it started to rock wildly, the yard wall crumbled. I ran into the house compound to get my 87 year old mother and my daughter out. Since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, we've gained a lot of experience in how to survive an earthquake."

Chen and her family were lucky. No one was injured. And they moved into this temporary tent village set up soon after the quake. They used 3 tents.

For beds they use plastic blankets and paper. It's a very crowded bed for the family, but they are relieved to have the shelter.

Chen Wenfen said, "We are very thankful for the quick help we've received. The tents are nice. We're not afraid of the rains now."

The only food available is plain porridge without vegetables or meat. But it's food. There's still a lack of clean water and medicine here, which the residents urgently need.

The earthquake has destroyed over 10,000 homes. Most victims were taken to the tents surrounding the hospital. I'm standing now in the tent village on the basketball court at Lushan Middle School. The local SWAT team is making more tents for the local people.

47 tents have been erected here and over 300 residents who lost their homes to the quake are now living here. The Sichuan SWAT team is doing everything to make sure as many residents as possible can be accommodated. Some of them were also involved in rescue efforts during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. All that experience is proving to be of immense help now.
