Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry has emphasised that the two Kazakh students detained in connection with the recent marathon bombings in Boston have only been charged with obstructing the investigation.
Zhanbolat Ussenov, Spokesman of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry, said, "Criminal charges were imposed for obstructing the probe by destroying evidence. We would like to highlight that the two students are not charged with involvement in the bombings. The case is only based on destruction of evidence. At the moment all the necessary consular assistance is being offered to them."
US authorities on Wednesday charged three men with interfering with the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombings. The three suspects, a US citizen and two students from Kazakhstan, were described by authorities as college friends of surviving bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They are alleged to have hidden fireworks and a backpack belonging to the suspected bombers as the manhunt was underway.
