Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has visited the town of Potsdam in Germany on Sunday, where the Potsdam Proclamation was issued in 1945.

Li Keqiang said in a speech that the peace and post-war order, achieved at the price of tens of millions of lives, must be firmly safeguarded. He referred to the Potsdam Proclamation which reiterated the principles of the Cairo Declaration, which included the demand that Japan must return all occupied territories to China. He said history should be acknowledged, and any attempts to deny or glorify wartime aggression were a challenge to international justice.

After the visit, Li met Matthias Platzeck, governor of Brandenburg state. The governor expressed hope for cooperation with China in areas like renewable energy, the Internet and culture.

The Chinese Premier arrived in Berlin late on Saturday, the only European Union country included in his first overseas tour since taking office in March. His schedule includes meetings with German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel.
