China is experiencing its first heat wave of the summer. The blue alert for high temperatures issued by weather authorities on Monday remains in effect across the country. Chongqing Municipality and Hubei Province felt heats of over 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Temperatures in Chongqing and seven provinces are expected to sizzle at between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days, while temperatures will surpass 35 degrees in some southern parts of China.

Local governments are requiring people working outdoors to wear proper protection. Residents have also been advised not to take part in outdoor activities after midday, and to prevent fires caused by overloading electrical equipment. Experts say in severe weather conditions like this, people should wear loose clothing and keep a light diet. They should also be aware of avoiding dehydration and direct exposure to sunlight.
