Mothers in Chinese mainland could soon be spending less on imported baby formula. Some foreign manufacturers have started cutting their prices, amid an ongoing anti-monopoly and price-fixing investigation by China's National Development Reform Commission.
Wyeth Nutrition, a unit of Swiss food giant Nestle, has cut its prices in China by as much as 20 percent. The firm is also promising not to raise prices on new formula products for a year. Wyeth also says it's made efforts to ensure its pricing stays in line with regulations. Other baby formulas planning to cut prices include France's Danone and Mead Johnson Nutrition. Imported products have dominated the baby formula market in China, since a scandal in 2008 when melamine was found in baby formula produced by a number of Chinese companies.
