The Spaniard's been locked in talks with the Chinese Football Association after he was dismisssed follwoing a humiliating 5-1 home defeat at home to a second-string Thailand side on June 15. Since then, the two sides, have failed to reach an agreement on a reported 12 million US dollars in compensation.

The Spaniard signed a three year contract with the National team in 2011 for an estimated annual salary of 2-point-8 million euros. The contract was due to expire next August. Under the 58 year old, China won only 7 of 20 matches.

During the most recent World Cup qualification, he led China to three wins and three losses, meaning the team failed to make the finals in Brazil.

China then played a series of friendlies, one against Brazil - never an easy opponent but the 8-0 defeat that followed, was the worst in history.

Then things hit rock-bottom. Ranked 142nd in the world, Thailand were not expected to beat China, but it happened and in a dramatic style, five-one. The defeat caused fury outside the stadium with fans calling for the manager to go and for wide sweeping changes.

China were ranked 71st in the world at the end of 2011 but fell to an all-time low of 109th last March.
