Chinese and Russian naval forces have wrapped up their "Joint Sea-2013" drills after three days of exercises in Russia's Peter the Great Gulf, near its far eastern port of Vladivostok.

The two sides practised maritime search and rescue operations in the morning and later held a live-fire exercise involving air, sea-borne and underwater targets. During the previous two days, the two navies conducted a range of drills, including air-defences, maritime re-supplying, countering submarine threats, joint escorts, and rescuing hijacked ships.

Seven vessels from China's North Sea Fleet and South Sea Fleet and 12 vessels from Russia's Pacific Fleet took part in the exercises. Three fixed-wing aircraft, five ship-borne helicopters and two special operations detachments also participated.
