In North-eastern China, 54 lives have been claimed in Fushun. This is one of the worst disasters in its history. Over 400 millimeters of rain has fallen, causing flash floods.

Local villages and homes have been destroyed. Residents have been forced to flee. Earlier, CCTV reporter Ji Yifei flew over the area in a rescue helicopter, and showed us how the floods have affected the landscape.

He said, "We are flying over the worst-hit Nankouqian Town. The State Road 202 has been blocked. Farmland has been inundated. The water level has risen by over 7 meters. The width of the river has expanded by about 100 meters. The bridge has collapsed. Half of it has gone.

In North-eastern China, 54 lives have been claimed in Fushun. This is one of the worst disasters in its history.

The Railway connecting the Liaoning provincial capital city of Shenyang and Jilin city in the neighboring province has been paralysed. We have arrived at Nansanjia Village. It is quite populated. A lot of homes have sustained major damages.

Now we are flying at a height of less than 100 metres. This place remains isolated as transportation and communication are still cut off." Rescue workers are sending a map to the local headquarters - which are in charge of rescue and relief efforts. The map was drawn up overnight. It is expected to help the work there."
