The trial of Chinese politician Bo Xilai on corruption and other charges will resume Friday at Jinan Intermediate People's Court. Bo Xilai is the former Communist Party chief of Chongqing Municipality. He is charged with accepting bribes, embezzlement, and abuse of power.

The trial started at 8:43 Beijing Time. The Intermediate People's Court in the eastern Chinese city of Jinan revealed the details of the charges against Bo Xilai. Bo is accused of taking bribes of over one million yuan from businessman Tang Xiaolin, who was the manager of the Dalian International Development Corporation.

Bo denies the charge. He says Tang is a corrupt fraudster, who provided false evidence against him in order to receive a lighter sentence for his own crimes.

Then prosecutors presented a written testimony from Bo's wife Bo-Gu Kailai saying she took money from shared safes in their different homes multiple times, money Bo had received improperly.

Bo Xilai put forward a strong defence by saying that he found Bo-Gu Kailai's testimony ridiculous and laughable. He said there was no way she could prove that the money she took from their safes was put in by him in the first place.

Bo was also charged with receiving about 22 million yuan in bribes from Xu Ming, the managing director of the Dalian Shide company. Prosecutors alleged that Bo took the bribes either himself or with the aid of his wife and his son.

Bo stated that the accusation was completely untrue and that he had never admitted to receiving such money.

The court also called Xu Ming, the president of the company, to give evidence that Bo accepted the bribes.

At the trial, Bo was also charged with embezzling 5 million yuan from a construction project that started in 2000 when he served as party secretary of Dalian city in northeast China.

The prosecutors also said that Bo Xilai abused his power in the murder case of a British businessman that involved his wife, as well as during the defection by the then-vice-mayor Wang Lijun to a U.S. consulate in Chongqing.

Bo appeared in good physical condition in court. About 100 people were in the public gallery, including five members of Bo's family and 19 journalists.

The court announced the trial will continue on Friday morning.
