China's BeiDou vehicle navigation device officially launched on Monday. The device, based on the BeiDou Satellite System, was independently developed by China and began providing services to the Asian-Pacific region last December. But, as a new player in market, can it earn consumers'favour?

The BeiDou vehicle navigator is selling in the Chinese market, competing with the well-known GPS.

It's not only a system, but a real product to consumers. The BeiDou vehicle navigator is selling in the Chinese market, competing with the well-known GPS.

"It's better than our expectations. At first, we thought it was just so so, because it was a newly-developed product. But in fact, it has many functions, and its navigation accuracy is very good."said Chen Guan, a consumer.

The launch of the navigator marks China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System to be used in civil sector. In the long-term, the designers have more expectation for the system.

"To 2020, we will build a global navigation system. In that way, we'll compete with GPS, Glonass and Galileo. We aim to be one of the important suppliers in the global navigation market."said Li Zhong, deputy chief designer of Beidou Navigation satelite system.

"I think, in the future, the system could be installed in mobile phones to extend the positioning services."said Sun Jiadong, Chief designer of Beidou Navigation satelite system.

Mr. Sun believes the system's positioning function could also be used to take care of heart-disease patients, and the elderly, in the future.
