Tired of paying endless mortgage repayments or renting an expensive apartment ? How about spending only 4,000 pounds, or less than 7,000 dollars, to build your own house? That's a decision a number of young city dwellers are making in the UK.

Build your own hobbit home.

Without any experience in home building, Jamine Dale and her husband decided to move to a Welsh village and build a house from scratch three years ago. Following self-taught tutorial on the Internet and from books, they used scrap wood, timber and lime to construct their very own hobbit home. The cost - 4,000 pounds, that's only a tenth of what they would've spent purchasing a two-bedroom apartment in London.

"When it's dusk and all the flowers that are purple are glimmering and you walk around and can hear birds, and I see my children playing in the raspberry patch, then I feel the heartfelt dreams of my childhood have come true. "said the home owner Jamine Dale.

But making a fairy tale come true takes a lot of work indeed. This includes generating energy with solar power, channelling water from valleys and growing their own vegetables. The Dales are not the only family that chose to live such a pastoral, and D-I-Y life. Nine other families from across the UK became their neighbors. The farthest dweller originally comes from California in the United States. He got a lot of his building material from garbage.

"It's primarily a recycled house."home owner Alex told the reporter.

To build such a hobbit house, people need to first acquire land from private land owners and then get building permission from the Welsh government. As UK house prices increased by more than 3 percent in the past 12 months to July - that's according to the UK national statistics office - becoming your own real estate developer may be an attractive option.
