As we've just heard, Lufeng is one of the cities that has taken a ponding by Usagi. It's right near the place where the storm made landfall. Our reporter Ning Hong has more on the damage there.

Devastating winds and flooding rains. Typhoon Usagi swept across populated coastal areas, with villages flooded, houses collapsed. It has been the most damaging typhoon in Guangdong province for decades.

Fisherman Wang Xinju said, "It's really bad'. The boats were blown to land, and they are all ruined. We can't pull them down, not to mention go to sea."

For local residents they are no stranger of typhoons. However, in spite of careful preparations, many of their houses still suffer huge damage.

Chen Xuelu from Wu Kan village, Lufeng city, said, "I fortified the house with iron wire several days before the typhoon arrived. I also added some iron sheets. But it was useless and all blown away."

Armed police force is helping local people clearing debris. And power companies are busy working to restore power.

Over 7000 houses destroyed in Guangdong province, eight million people's lives were affected. And the total losses may exceed 5 billion yuan.
