China's top meteorological authority has issued an orange alert as Typhoon Fitow is set to hit the country's southeast coastlines late Sunday.
Fitow is expected to make landfall in the east provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian on Sunday, bringing strong gales. It will also bring heavy rain to the north region of Taiwan.
Fitow, the 23rd of the year, strengthened to a strong typhoon on Friday afternoon. It centered on the northwestern Pacific Ocean, about 850 kilometers east of Taipei, packing winds of 42 meters per second.
The meteorological authority suggest tourists make an early arrangement of their return from Taiwan. Fishermen are advised to return to port before the Typhoon lands.
