The fastest man on the planet now, Usain Bolt, has been honoured in Monaco for his achievements this year. The Jamaican sprinter was awarded the Male World Athlete of the Year at the IAAF World Athletics Gala at a glitzy event in Monaco.

The 27-year-old has already won the honour four times, and took it again this year, having defended both his 100m and 200m titles in the Moscow World Championships. He also anchored the Jamaican quartet to gold in the 4x100m relay, winning 10 out of 11 100m races in 2013 overall.

Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce win the male and female World Athlete of the Year awards.

Meanwhile his fellow Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was awarded the Female World Athlete of the Year. The 26-year-old regained her world 100m title in Moscow in a time of 10.7 seconds, which is the fastest time this year. She went on to win gold in the 200m as well as winning the 4x100 meters relay.

Both athletes will also receive a prize of 100,000 U.S. dollars.

Yelena Isinbayeva was also honoured at the event. The Russian pole-vaulter took the title on home soil in Moscow.
