The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel claimed yet another record on Sunday, when he became the first driver to win eight straight races in a single season, with his victory at the US Grand Prix.
The pre-race entertainment, with a fly-past and cheer-leaders, making this an unmistakably Texan race.
And starting from pole position, Vettel made a blistering start, cruising through the first corner and giving the rest of the field little opportunity to reel him in.
But things soon went back to square one. A crash involving Force India’s Adrian Sutil, who lost control on the back straight, after a collision with Pastor Maldonado, brought out the safety car.
But Vettel built up a lead once more meaning the main battles took place behind him. Mark Webber here overtaking Lewis Hamilton to put himself in amongst the podium places.
But he was unable to hold off Sebastien Grosjean who finished second. Webber coming 3rd with Hamilton finishing fourth.
But the day belonged to Vettel. The win ensures, that he heads into the season finale in Brazil, with the chance to equal Michael Schumacher’s Formula One record, of 13 victories in a single season.
