Weather authorities have issued a yellow haze alert in northern and northeastern parts of China. Smog has returned to the capital Beijing, after several days of blue skies.
The PM 2.5 reading hit almost 300 on Friday evening, based on official data from the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau. Local weather departments have warned residents to reduce outdoor activities and take protective measures if necessary.
Meanwhile, sleet is expected in the capital on Saturday evening as a new cold front takes shape.
In Harbin, in northeast China, visibility on major roads is below a hundred meters. Local weather authorities have issued a yellow smog warning. Most flights at the city’s airport have been delayed.
