"Firestorm" sees renowned Hong Kong actor Andy Lau play a senior police inspector who is in pursuit of the criminal "Nam" played by Hu Jun. Mainland actress, Yao Chen, appears as the girlfriend of an ex-con.
Andy Lau and Yao Chen appeared hand in hand on the red carpet, to the delight of many fans. Although both are A-list stars on the Chinese film scene, this is their first collaboration. Yao Chen is Weibo's most followed actress with 18 million followers, many of whom are on-hand and eager to find out more about this "first".
"Yes, this is the first time we've acted together. But there aren't too many scenes that we appear together in. We're actually only in one scene together... We have known each other for a very long time. I first saw her on-screen in 'Big Movie'," Lau says.
Lau is also a producer on "Firestorm". With this 3D thriller, the idol hopes to take the lion's share of the new year film market.
"I hope this movie does well. My previous movies have not taken more than three hundred million yuan. I hope this movie can break this past record," Lau says.
"Firestorm" was written by Alan Yuen, whose credits include "New Police Story","Rob-B-Hood", and "Connected". This is his directorial debut.
The Asia Pacific Film Festival, first held in 1954, is held annually in an Asian city selected by the Board of Directors from the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific.
