US Vice President Joe Biden has spoken on the phone with Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki about the ongoing fighting in Anbar province. Wednesday’s conversation is the leaders’ second phone call this week.
The White House says Biden encouraged al-Maliki to continue to work with local, tribal, and national leaders. Biden also welcomed a decision to extend state benefits to tribal forces who are killed or injured in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq.
