The Chang’e 3 lunar probe has successfully conducted scientific analysis of the moon’s soil below the surface.
It was done over a period of two months. Scientists say the job is very challenging, in that they need to control a robotic arm 380 thousand kilometers away. This requires millimetre-level precision.
The lunar rover called "Yutu" found that there are 11 chemical elements existing in the soil including magnesium, aluminium, titanium and iron... all useful resources that can potentially be used.
